Will this work on my 83 Volkswagen Vanagon

posted Dec 11, 2016 00:21:10 by LucianoSanchez
Hi, I found your site researching for a way to read RPM's on my 1983 Vanagon.

Vanagons did not come with a tachometer from 1980-1985 but many people have installed the later year's instrument clusters (which do have a tachometer) on these years since they are practically the same with an addition of one wire.

I found out that I can install a tachometer on my van by connecting a after market tach using the following configuration. Red wire to power, black to ground, white to dimmer, and the green wire to the ignition coil in the rear of the van (engine compartment). My question to you is, will this same configuration work for me?

Does your set up, have a "green" wire that I can connect to my ignition coil like any tachometer that you purchase at a store?

Thank you for the help and please let me know if you require additional information. Luciano
